These activities are played on lower hoops at the Recreation Center.

Basketball for grades three through eight are run by Hutchinson Youth Basketball Association and registration occurs in September and early October with activity start and end dates dependent on the grade level.
Flag Football
This program is intended to introduce your young athlete to the game of football in a safe, fun and encouraging environment. Teams will have a brief practice followed by a one hour game each evening. We will play once a week and play from early September through early October.
Tackle Football
This program comes complete with a helmet and pads! Participants will play “real” tackle footballagainst other Hutch teams as well as teams from surrounding communities. We will learn the basic skills of tackling, blocking and play formations. Teamwork, equal play and sportsmanship are the core of this program. Teams are divided into weight classes for added safety. We will meet twice a week from late August to mid-October.
These programs will teach the basic skills of soccer with an emphasis on teamwork and sportsmanship. Players will learn passing, shooting and positioning. Playing rules will be modified to accommodate the abilities of each age group. In Hutchinson we have two seasons for soccer- spring and fall. While the 4-6 grade soccer remains identical from spring to fall, the pre-schoolthrough 3rd grade programs will switch from the indoor artificial turf at Burich Arena in the spring season, which plays from mid-March to mid-May, to Roberts Park for a season of outdoor soccer, which plays from early September until mid-October. This is a great program with lots of hands on (or should we say feet on) participation. We meet once a week with the younger ages while the 4-6 grade program gets together twice a week.
While the younger teams will play strictly an in-house schedule, the 4-6 graders participate against other communities within a one-hour driving distance. Games for this level will be on Saturday mornings and with one practice during the week. The older kids will participate outdoors both spring and fall but may go indoors on occasion due to weather conditions.
This program is open to boys and girls ages 11-17. The teams are sanctioned with the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association and will play ten matches from early May until mid-July. Each team will also participate in two weekend tournaments. This program should not conflict with any spring high school sports. Coaches understand that school sports will take priority over club sports. The association also offers a winter open soccer opportunity for players to sharpen their skills. This activity is free to all players who register for spring soccer. For more information check out the HUSA website.
This program is coordinated by PRCE and Crow River Fastpitch and is open to girls in grades 3 through 12. Players required to purchase their own uniform. Games are played within one hour’s driving distance of Hutchinson. Players do the pitching at all levels. Practice begins in mid-May with games beginning in June. Games are played on Mondays and Wednesdays with a practice scheduled at the coach’s discretion. Season runs until late July.
Individual Activities
The indoor playground is a great place for young children to run off some energy and learn social skills through interaction with other children. They are able to climb, slide, swing, pedal, ride and run to their hearts content! Playground is available Monday, Tuesday, Thursday from 9:30am to 11:30am at the Recreation Center. Participants must be supervised by a parent or an adult.
PRCE offers a “learn to skate” program for children as young as four years old. Skaters are taught various techniques and skills as they go through the various levels of the program. The upper levels of ability are organized through the Hutchinson Figure Skating Association. The program is offered from October through February each year along with an abbreviated 3 weeks in July.
Players can begin to develop their volleyball skills by learning from the best!! In conjunction with the Hutch Tigers high school volleyball team and coaching staff your young player will learn how to pass, set, hit and serve. We have also added a lightweight volleyball to enhance each player’s performance. Participants will meet once a week, for five weeks, beginning in early September.
